In 1980 David Hawgood transcribed and indexed various lists of people in Warminster, for an Open University project. The ten sources are shown below. There are about 600 people altogether. He will be happy to search for any individuals in the list, send an email to david@hawgood.com . Please say how your family is connected to Warminster when enquiring. Note that all the lists are for the period from 1830 to 1852.
Our particular connection to Warminster is that Barbara Hawgood's ancestor James Carver Excell was a draper there from about 1820 to 1845. Most of his children emigrated to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia - though they returned for a time, Barbara's grandfather Melbourne Frederick Excell was born in Lewisham, London in 1865, but lived in Victoria from 1872.
